Belitung Island, A Piece of Heaven
Belitung or Belitong is an island off the east coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, flanked by the Gaspar Strait and Karimata Strait. The main town is Tanjung Pandan. Although the island is famous with white pepper and mineral mining type-C such as lead white, quartz sand, white clay (kaolin), and granite rocks, actually Belitung Island is a special island with beautiful granite rocky, greenish blue sea, and white sandy beach which is not found anywhere.
The beauty of Belitung Island in Bangka Belitung Province archipelago was revealed when the novel by Andrea Hirata Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Troops) exploded on the market. The novel with the background of daily life in the Belitung Island region has attracted young filmmaker Mira Lesmana to elevate this novel into a movie. Filming was done in the Belitung Islands. This was a free promotion of Belitung Island tourism through the media.
Slowly, the beauty of Belitung Island is increasingly famous. I also went to the Belitung Island. I was curious with the beauty of the island and the story behind the novel that inspired me, Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Troops).
How to Get There
I departed from Jakarta at 06.00 WIB by Sriwijaya Air. Only 50 minutes we had reached the airport at Tanjungpandan HAS Hananjoedin. We went to Tanjung Tinggi beach, a beach with white and clean sand, as well as large stones. These make scenery here is unique and beautiful.
